Do Not Gild the Lily When it Comes to Flowers

Since the blossoming of the edible flowers that I planted, I have been going crazy with them in the kitchen. Salads, cupcakes, birthday cakes, scones, canapés, you name it I have dressed it up with the flower petals. But, the funny thing I have discovered is that the biggest response I have gotten is from the silly ice cubes that I frozen petals inside.

While hosting a tea party, I included a bunch of the adorable ice cubes. Instead of the attention I expected to receive over the three tiered cake I had painstakingly covered in flowers, the ladies oohed and ahhed over the floating petals. Maybe I am guilty of gilding the lily, and the lesson here is that nature is often most enjoyed in a simple format.
